November 20, 2015

Dear Moose,

We hope to see you at the PTO sponsored Harvest Dinner tonight! This delicious event takes place from 5:30-6:30 pm in the SES gym. The PTO has sent out information regarding the potluck assignments. Please bring a favorite meal, salad, appetizer, dessert or drink and celebrate autumn with the SES community. After dinner, there will be a fabulous puppet show featuring Shutesbury’s own Anna Sobel and sponsored by the M. N. Spear Memorial Library. THANK you to the PTO and all volunteers that helped to make this traditional event happen. Special thanks go to Jade Alicandro Mace and Ashleigh Pyecroft for taking on all of the organization!

Shutesbury Elementary School T-Shirts are coming!  The PTO has taken some of our student submitted moose drawings and have created a fabulous school spirit shirt.  This maroon and gold (school colors) attire will be for sale soon. Students, teachers and parents will all love to rock out wearing the SES colors and mascot! Kudos to Angela Regan for her leadership on this task!  (See the Shutesbury Elementary School website for a preview!)

This past week, all of our students have had some exciting sessions with our Artists-in-Residence, Ashley and Caddy Carlisle. Students and teachers are reporting that each session is filled with movement, music and fun. These sessions will continue as each class prepares for our whole school performance on December 16th. Please remember to mark your calendars for a 10:00 am and 7:00pm whole school performance.

It is hard to believe that this is the final November Roadtown edition for 2015. Next week, school is in session for Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th only.  We will have Thanksgiving Recess from November 25th- November 27th. I wish the entire school community a meaningful and heartwarming Thanksgiving.  I hope your days are filled with good food, friends and family.  Students will return to school on Monday, November 30th. The next Roadtown will be sent on Friday December 4th.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Jackie

Moose Interview of the Week!

Alex from 4th Grade!

JM: What do you love about our school?
AF:
I like that we have specials (gym is my favorite). The teachers are nice. We have a good library where we can check out books.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?
AF:
I like to ski. On the weekends I like to play some videogames like Minecraft. I like to play outside with my friends and play games like tag and hide and go seek. I also like to play with Legos.

JM: What are you enjoying about 4th grade?
AF:
We have time in class called DEAR- Drop Everything and Read. I like it. The teacher is really nice and she makes math fun. We also get to write stories in writing workshop.

JM: If you could eat any kind of food for the rest of your life what would it be?
AF:
It would probably be some kind of soup. I like chicken noodle and black bean soup. I had a chicken noodle in California when we were on vacation for 3 weeks and I really liked it. I especially like soup with bread.

***SCHOOL NEWS***

*No Roadtown News Next Week.  Due to the short week we will not put out a publication next week.  Have a happy Thanksgiving!

*Morning Drop Off:  Drop off can happen only AFTER 8:20am.  We would love for families to walk children in to school in the morning if you are dropping off. If you must drop and run before the buses arrive, please drop your child off at the front door.  If the buses have arrived, please park your car and walk your child in to the school. Cars should not pull up in the bus lane when buses are parked and children should not be unattended in the parking lot.  This is for your child’s safety!  Cars and buses may drive speedily into and out of the parking lot and we don’t want anyone to get hurt.  Thank you!

Don’t miss this opportunity to receive training in this award winning, interdisciplinary nationally recognized program! It is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school. The program emphasizes terrestrial and aquatic wildlife because of their intrinsic, ecological value, as well as their role in teaching how ecosystems function. Through the use of balanced curriculum materials and professional training workshops, Project WILD accomplishes its goal of developing awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment.

Workshop participants will receive a copy of the guide and a certificate of completion. This hands-on workshop has applications for school teachers, scout leaders, camp counselors, nature center staff, home educators, after care teachers, etc.

Project WILD is sponsored in the state by The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife

This is not a school sponsored event.
