Dear Moose,

The first two weeks are off to a great start. There has been lots of learning and bucket filling! Next week will be our first full week-- so please expect students to feel a bit more tired!

OPEN HOUSE NEWS ALERT! The Shutesbury teachers met and have decided to change up our Open House this year. As a community, we feel like our students should be a part of the Open House experience. The new format will mean that students and families will attend from 6:00-7:00pm on September 27th.  From 6:00-6:30 families may visit classrooms. There you will meet the teacher, see the learning environment, participate in some activities/games and receive some information regarding the schedule and outline of learning for the year. Around 6:30 all moose will be invited to the gym. We will gather together to hear some messages from School Committee and PTO. We will also talk about some bucket filling and maybe even dance together. We are excited for this new format and look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.

***SCHOOL NEWS***

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM 4TH GRADE (written by Emma and Evie)

!HELP!  Part 1:

There was a BIG flood in Houston, Texas.  This was all caused by a terrible hurricane called Harvey.  People lost everything.  All the people in Houston would really appreciate it if you stepped in and donated wipes, diapers and money.

!HELP! Part 2:

SES is asking to send diapers and wipes for babies in need.  You can send diapers in to fourth grade with your child or you can send them directly to Texas.  You can also donate money if that seems easier to your family.  There are many tragic incidents and many people are being brave and saving others.  Even though we can’t go all the way to Houston, Texas we can still help from a distance by donating diapers, money and wipes.  So please help us keep those bottoms dry.

NOTE FROM THE OFFICE:  WE ARE MISSING MANY EMERGENCY CONTACT FORMS AND MANY COMPUTER USE FORMS.  Please return all school paperwork that you received in your first day packet to the school office quickly.  Thank you!

Bella from 1st/2nd Grade!

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do at school?
BM:  Help kids.  In case they get hurt I walk up to them and I say to the person who pushed them or kicked them, “That’s not nice, don’t do that again.”  Then I help the person up and I tell the teacher because pushing is not allowed…Especially in my old school.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
BM:  It’s ‘supposably’ Chinese food. 

JCB:  Did you have Chef Gail’s Chinese food yesterday?  
BM:  Yes!  My favorite one was the egg roll.  That was really good!

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
BM:  My favorite thing to do is visit my family members and set up stuff. 

JCB:  If you could be an animal what animal would you pick?
BM:  I would pick an eagle ‘cause I’d actually be able to fly and I’d actually be able to see predators and I’d actually be living in the wild on my own and I’d be able to live an eagle life.

JCB:  What’s something that you’re looking forward to at school this year?
BM:  I’m looking forward to going to 4^th grade.

JCB:  Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?
BM:  I’d like to help you.  I want to help you in here in the office with kids that want to talk to you.

Milk to Cheese

Try your hand at milking our Alpine goats.  Process the milk, then make chevre/feta in our 1850's farmhouse kitchen.  Sample several versions of this cheese while we wait for the cheese at different stages.   All materials and equipment will be supplied for the class.  Take home an equipment and material list, recipes, resource materials on raising goats, goat and milking equipment, and cheese making supplies,
as well as the cheese you made!

Making Chevre - Saturday, September  9, 10am - 1pm

NEW!!  Making Feta - Saturday, September 16, 10am - 1pm
Each cheese making class $65 per student
