September 25, 2015

Dear SES Community,

We welcomed Autumn this week and were treated with beautiful weather and clean fresh air! The fifth and sixth graders went on an adventure to Morse Hill. The students and teachers enjoyed some exciting challenges on the ropes courses and other activities there.

The school is preparing for our Open House next Wednesday September 30th. We are looking forward to seeing the parents and guardians of our amazing students. The dates and times have been communicated through previous Roadtown letters as well as a flyer that went home. Below, you will find the schedule of events. We would like to remind you that Open House is for parents/guardians only.

6:00-6:30 Pre-K

6:30-7:15 Kindergarten-3rd grade

7:15-7:45 Community Meeting in Gym

7:45-8:30 4th-6th grade

Our SES School Council is looking for a new parent/guardian representative! The School Council is a committee that is tasked with examining and creating the School Improvement Plan as well as brainstorming and planning other things that can help make SES even stronger. The Council usually meets the second Tuesday of every month from 3:30-5:00 pm.  If you are interested in becoming part of the School Council, please let Ms. Mendonsa know ASAP. If there is more than one person, there will be a brief election at Open House, where you may be asked to share a few words (written and verbally). Please consider joining this team.

Enjoy the beautiful Autumn weather this weekend. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday at Open House!

Sincerely,

Jackie Mendonsa

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Any checks for the school should be made payable to “Town of Shutesbury” (unless otherwise specified) with the appropriate account in the memo line.  This goes for Afterschool, instrument lessons, cafeteria and preK tuition.  We encourage all families to use our online payment method – Unipay.  Find this on our website:  shutesburyschool.org.

Pick ups are now in the library.  School hours are 8:30 – 3:10 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 8:30-1:00 on Wednesday.  Please do not drop children off before 8:20.  We do not have a before school program so there is no supervision for children before 8:20.

We encourage all families to fill out a Free/Reduced National School Lunch application.  The more families on our F/R list, the better it is for our school.  Find the application on our website under the lunch program.

SUZUKI PIANO LESSONS

Take piano lessons right here in Shutesbury!  I am a local music teacher and parent of two Shutesbury students. With over 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages I have developed an approach which blends traditional Suzuki teaching methods together with classical as well as popular music.  Students love to learn playing songs right away!

Each student is unique with their own strengths.  I will tailor the pace of learning to meet each individual.  Some children prefer to move at a slower pace while others move more quickly. I strive to make lessons both focused and fun!

I teach students of all ages. Currently I have openings afterschool on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Mondays. Feel free to call  Amber O'Brien at (413) 367-2367 or e-mail for more information [email protected].
