Dear SES Moose,

Happy May! It seems so remarkable that we are embarking on our final months of the school year! Though we have 7 weeks of school left, those weeks are PACKED full of special events and happenings. We will be continually updating our website with events on our calendar.

The grade 6 students and families are busy waxing their mustaches and gathering the delicious goods for the famous Spaghetti Supper. The Supper will occur on May 8th and takes place in the “SES Restaurant” (the gym/cafeteria). There is a 6:00 pm seating and a 7:30pm seating. Tickets are selling fast, so don’t miss your chance to attend this traditional event and dine on some delicious spaghetti! If you do not know a student to purchase tickets from, you can call or visit the school to reserve your seat!

The PTO has been hard at work preparing the Silent Auction. This event is paired with the Spaghetti Supper on May 8th and is in the SES Art and Music room. You can visit the silent auction before or after you dine at the dinner (or come just for the auction). The PTO has gathered some outstanding donations and items for the auction. Picnic tables, movie baskets, museum tickets, a paddle board, bicycles (from the Shutesbury PD!), gift certificates to local restaurants and summer camps, concert tickets and MORE will be available to bid on. All proceeds benefit the students of SES.

A letter was sent home to 3rd through 6th grade SES families regarding the May state testing.  As a staff, we have decided to test the May PARCC testing within one week. Grades 3 and 4 and Grades 5 and 6 will be testing on the day/time. Below, please see that schedule:

I wanted to remind families of the many musical events happening in the evening for our students in May. These include the Band Concert on May 13, All Kids Got Talent on May 15, The Orchestra/Strings Concert on May 20th and the General Music Concert and Art Show on May 27th (all SES students will participate in this event).

It will be a busy and wonderful month!

SES Student Interview of the Week!

Arielle from 4th Grade!

JM: What do you love about SES?

AO-S: I really like all of the teachers and how they are really nice. I also like that my classmates are really kind to me. We have a really nice school. The teachers are also really good at teaching!

JM: What do you like to do in your free time?

AO-S: I like to sew. I sew outfits, like dresses and shorts. I like swimming and Lake Wyola, too.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

AO-S: I want to be a hair stylist because then you can style people’s hair and help people feel nice about themselves.

JM: What is your favorite lunch that Chef Gail makes?

AO-S: I really like the nachos. I like the cheese on top! I have salsa with them too.

Silent Auction Work Party:  The SES PTO needs help this Sunday, May 3rd from 3-5pm for a work party at the Shutesbury Athletic Club.  We will use this time to take care of mounting all paper donations on displays, and to create other displays for our auction.  Please join us as many hands make light work!

Boxtops check received for $52.10!  Thanks to everyone who donated Boxtops to our school this round.  And thanks to Amber O’Brien for collecting and sending in the Boxtops.  These little amounts really add up over time!  You can still send Boxtops in to the office at any time.
