NO SCHOOL – Curriculum Day

Dear Moose Community,

The month of October brings the chilly weather, beautiful changes in our leaves and a lot of exciting events at school!  Our students have been buckling down now that they are comfortable with the expectations and routines in their new classrooms.  The PTO is also on a tear – participating in Celebrate Shutesbury and holding a Mums Fundraiser already!  The PTO will be meeting with other interested families on Wednesday, October 10 at 8:45am in the conference room.  Please join them to offer support and discuss new ideas – and enjoy some baked goods and coffee!

We will be holding our 5th annual Vocabulary Costume Day on Wednesday, October 31st. We will distribute a letter later in the month that details this event. All students will identify a vibrant and unique vocabulary word that they will dress up as. Students will need to have the word written and attached to their costume. Many students create these word cards in class. The point of this day is to teach others the meaning of your vocabulary word through costume. Costumes can be as elaborate or as simple as the student wants. For example, the student's word could be "Emerald" and they could dress in all green.

Looking ahead for the rest of October we have several events to be aware of:

  • No school on October 8th  (Indigenous Peoples' Day (Columbus Day))
  • Picture Day on October 12th
  • No school for students on October 19th  (Curriculum Day)
  • Conferences October 31 & November 1st and November 6th and 7th

Hope to see you at the PTO Meet and Greet next Wednesday morning!

Best,

Jackie

Our new Moose on the Move session is off to a great start!  We’ve been meeting on Monday afternoons from 3:10-4:00 and Wednesday mornings from 8:00-8:30. The kids also “rack” up moose laps during PE and recess or extra outdoor time during the day.  We will regularly post the kids’ personal milestones in the front hallway, in the Roadtown News, and they will be recognized at assembly.  These children will be recognized at the next assembly for hitting personal milestones:

***SCHOOL NEWS***

The Book Fair is Coming!

The Scholastic Book Fair brings to school a selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books. Giving kids the opportunity to choose their own books motivates them to read more. The book fair provides funds for our library and leadership opportunities for our 5th and 6th graders, too! In the spring, we will once again run a fair in conjunction with World Eye Books of Greenfield.

Book Fair Dates:         Monday, October 15th to Thursday, October 18th

Shopping Hours:         School hours each day, plus Wednesday evening

Family Event: Wednesday, October 17th from 5:30-7:30
