April 17, 2015

Dear SES Moose,

It’s really hard to believe that we are about to embark on our April Vacation! When we return to school, there will only be 2 months of school left! As of now, the last day of school for students is Friday, June 19th. Several families have asked me about when school will start for the 2015-2016 school year. Well, I can share that the fist day of school will be September 2nd!

This week at SES, students, teachers and families finished up family conferences. Sixth graders also began selling the infamous Spaghetti Dinner Tickets! Spaghetti Dinner will take place on May 8th. There are two seatings for dinner, 6:00pm and 7:30pm. The PTO has also been working super hard preparing the SES Silent Auction that will take place during the Spaghetti Dinner. There have been some amazing community donations for this auction. I encourage all families to purchase tickets to the Spaghetti Dinner and to stop by the Silent Auction. They are two great SES traditions that provide support and resources to our school.

May is going to be an incredibly busy month at school. To help in this organization, we have included a calendar of events in this Roadtown edition for families to reference. Various field trips, testing, dinners, concerts and special events will be taking place. It will be an exciting and eventful few weeks. I wanted families to know about our 3 evening concert performance dates in May: The Band Concert is May 13th  at 6:30pm,  The Strings Concert is May 20th at 6:30pm, and The General Music Spring Concert and art show on May 27th at 6:30pm ( art show starts at 6:00pm).

I am once again asking for all school community members to take our school survey. The School Council, in the hopes to get feedback from all school stakeholders, created this survey. The survey will be examined, analyzed and used as a tool by the committee to help plan next steps for our school. Eliciting and utlizing feedback from the community is an important component to a healthy school. The link is listed below, but is also available on our school website. Here’s the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SES_School_Council2015

It has been so delightful to watch our students frolic in the beautiful springtime weather this week. The younger grades have been creating fairy gardens and villages together in the sunshine. I wish you all a great vacation filled with sun, fun and happiness.

SES Staff Interview of the Week!

Andrea Hermans!

JM: What do you love about SES?

AH: Awwwwww. I like that it feels like a family here. Everyone really cares about each other—kids, staff, parents, we take care of each other.

JM: What do you like to do in your spare time?

AH: I love crossfit. I also love hiking and doing crafty stuff. I like baking. I’ve taught Cygan (her son) all my sweet dancing moves, too!

JM: What kinds of jobs have you had in your life so far?

AH: I had a paper route. I was a cashier at Big Y. I was a supervisor at Big Y. I was a receptionist at a doctor’s office. Hmmmm, what else… in high school I worked on a tobacco farm.  Teaching is obviously my favorite job.

JM: If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

AH: Hmmm, this is hard. Oh, I know! A grilled cheese and tomato sandwich!
