Dear Moose Community!

Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year! We have had a terrific start! We are so delighted that the cooler air has greeted us today!

Students and teachers have been working to learn routines and procedures this week. We are getting to know our new staff members and our new students as well! It has been so great learning new names and greeting new families into our school.

Enjoy the long weekend. Mark your calendars for Celebrate Shutesbury (our annual town extravaganza on the town green) on Saturday September 15th, and Open House on Wednesday September 26th!

We are thrilled to see the students back at SES! How tall they have grown! Lots of missing and new teeth!

See you soon,

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Special thanks to the Warwick family!  Tansy, 2nd Grader, raised money for our school through a Lemonade Stand this summer!  Melissa and John (parents) have set up the PTO directory website where you can input your student’s info by September 14 to be included.  We appreciate your support!

The Moose on the Move Club will be starting the week of September 10.  Last year students had opportunities to run or walk before school, during recesses or extra outside time and after school on our wonderful track in the upper field.  We will send out a schedule soon.  Last year our students ran over 1,500 miles combined!!  This year the staff is also motivated to add to those miles.  Look for more information to come.  Go Moose!

YELLOW NOTE INFO:  Please send in a yellow school note if there is ever a change in your child’s plans at the end of the day.  You should have received these notepads in your first day packets.  If you need a notepad of yellow school notes, please be in touch with Jessica, [email protected].

PLEASE RETURN ALL FIRST DAY PACKET PAPERWORK ASAP!

DROP OFF/PICK-UP INFO:  This year when children are dropped off in the morning before the bell rings at 8:30, they will go directly to the school library where Ms. L. will greet them.  At 8:30 students will be dismissed from the library to go to their classrooms.  Pick-ups will also happen in the library (at 3:10 on M, T, Th, F and at 1:00 on W).  This arrangement provides consistency, supervision, and extra reading time!!  Thank you, Ms. L., for these opportunities!

NURSE KATIE’S EMAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED!  PLEASE EMAIL NURSE KATIE HARRINGTON AT [email protected].  THANK YOU!

***COMMUNITY NEWS***

Fall is coming and before the rakes and snow shovels come out get your body moving.  Head to the Shutesbury Elementary School gym for 4 nights of Aiki Movement classes from 6-6:45pm. We meet on Monday September 10th, 17th, 24th and October 1.

These classes are for anyone who wants to improve their movement awareness and body integration.

Each session will focus on:

Stretching while incorporating Aikido Movements

This class is taught by two friends (Ria & Charles) who have been teaching and practicing Aikido for 30 + years. For this special class we are leaving the martial out and delving into the art of Aiki stretching or what we call Aiki Movement.

The focus will be on developing awareness of one’s “Ki”, whole body centering, balance, and getting our body to stretch and flex in a safe environment.

This class is especially helpful if you are interested in an extended warmup and gentle, active movement yet not really interested in a full on martial arts class.  We invite those who have a compromised movement system yet want to move more.  We assist you in moving from where you are in your current physical state.

Stretch into Fall on Monday nights from 6-6:45pm

September 10, 17, 24 and Oct 1, 2018

Location: Shutesbury Elementary School Gym

Price: $10 per class

Please private message me, Ria, or call 413-367-9787 to register or for more info.  Hope to see you at the gym as we get our bodies moving and grooving for the coming Fall and Winter.
