Hello Moose!

This week we were graced with the culminating efforts of all of our 6th graders, many volunteers from the community and the 6th grade staff with the 6th Grade Portfolio Presentations!  This time honored tradition let’s us get a glimpse of the mature, self-reflective, and confident pre-teens that our 6th graders have become.  We are so proud of each and every one of these students and wish them well next year in middle school.  Thanks to all of the families, staff and volunteers who made this possible!

Next week is a busy one!  See the Dates to Remember section for details on the 6th Grade Field Trip to Boston, 3rd and 4th Grade Field trip to the Hitchcock Center, 3rd Grade Field Trip to Plimouth Plantation, the SES Book Swap (bring in gently used books to swap out!), Field Day (volunteers still needed – please contact Steven Carra at carras@shutesburyschool.org), and the Drama Club Performance of “Jungle Book”!  What a full docket we have here at SES!!  It’s so great to have a school and community that can offer so many different opportunities to its students.

Thank you again for all of your continued support!

Jackie

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Sam from First Grade!

SMB

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do at school?
SMB:  Recess and gym.  I play tag, play in the woods.  I like to play freeze tag which we did TODAY and Fishy Fishy Cross my Ocean – we do that in gym and a game that’s called Fire in the Forest.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
SMB:  Do you know what’s like popcorn?  It’s called Pirate Booty.

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
SMB:  I like to read.  Can I tell you what I do in the nighttime?  I just read in the nighttime and my mom and dad say I can’t read but I keep reading so that I know the words each day.

JCB:  What book are you reading right now?
SMB:  Hey Jack.  I’m not on page 3.  I’m on Chapter 3!

JCB:  If you could be any animal what animal would you be and why?
SMB:  A shark or a eagle.  ‘Cause I could swim forever or I could fly.  Sharks swim forever.  Fish don’t really swim forever.  They just swim but when it’s nighttime they probably just go to sleep.  Sharks - they have one eye closed when it’s sleeping and then shuts the other eye so it makes both of them [eyes] rested because if they close both eyes at the same time they would fall asleep or they would just die and they have to swim to stay alive.

JCB:  What are you looking forward to doing this summer?
SMB:  Swimming in Lake Wyola, visit my cousins and have Mie (4th Grader) come over in the summer!

JCB:  What are you looking forward to next year in 2nd grade?
SMB:  I’ll be 8 in 2nd grade and I want to be 8 right now!  When I just hit 2nd grade I’ll still be 7 until March 31st.

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Bring in gently-used children’s books for the third annual SES BOOK SWAP!
Drop books off at the SES library anytime. Then choose “new to you” books to take home on Wednesday, June 13th and Friday, June 15!
You do not need to bring in books in order to participate. Every reader will be invited to bring home at least one "new to you" book.

Found bow (possibly for cello) after the Strings Concert.  If you are missing your bow, please contact Jessica in the office.

SCHOOL SURVEY NOW AVAILABLE!!   Every year, the School Council requests your feedback on various school topics. We greatly value your thoughts and ideas. We have created our survey and we request you take 5 minutes to share some feedback around your child's experience at SES.  We have spent time creating a survey that does not take a long time, but that gives us information on your feedback. It is honestly a short task! You can even enter to win a prize at the end!  Please consider taking a small amount of time out of your day to complete our survey. Thanks so much in advance.

PTO Moosing Update:

Stay tuned for more moose activity in your area! While moosing began as a month long experiment to gauge interest for a schoolwide moosing for next year, we are  happy to report that due to the overwhelming response we are able to extend it through the end of this school year! The moose are on their way to each and every SES household so don't be alarmed if you find a flock of moose in your drive - they are very friendly.  As a reminder, while there is an envelope that asks for the name of the next person to be moosed and in which a donation can be made, there is no need to make a donation, it is strictly voluntary.  And if a name given has already been moosed then another family on the list will be selected at random.  If you prefer not to be moosed, please contact the PTO at ShutesburyPTO@gmail.com. Happy Moosing!

AmeriGas Announcement!

We’ve received a check for $53.16 through AmeriGas!  When an AmeriGas customer receives a delivery, their invoice will contain a special School Days receipt that they can cut off and drop off at any school or organization participating in the program. AmeriGas will donate $0.02 per gallon, up to $2,000 per school in a calendar year. Send your AmeriGas receipts to the main office and we will redeem them.  Thank you!

Please contact the PTO with any questions.  ShutesburyPTO@gmail.com
