Dear SES Community,

What a week we have had! Spirit week has been a fun and smile-making success! From crazy hats, mixed-up outfits, fancy clothes, stuffed friends and school spirit attire, students and staff have really enjoyed the humor, laughter and fun that have filled our walls.  It was a nice mid-March treat, and it was nice to begin our days with some light-hearted cheer. Below, find 2 classroom pictures from spirit week!

On Friday, SES was treated to some Irish Step Dancing, led by SES parent Alycia Olanyk. Several students also performed! It was a delightful, toe-tapping afternoon! Many thanks to the talented Alycia and her students!

Next week, students in Grades 3-6 will begin PARCC testing. We have been and will continue to be very thoughtful in preparing students and making this experience as comfortable as possible. Testing begins at 9:00am each day. It is helpful for the student to be at school on time on these days! Remember, they can have a delicious breakfast if needed in the cafeteria beginning at 8:20! Next week’s testing schedule is as follows:

Monday 3/23: 3rd and 4th grade ELA testing

Tuesday 3/24: 5th and 6th grade Math testing

Wednesday 2/25: 3rd and 4th grade ELA testing

Thursday 3/26: 5th and 6th grade Math testing

Friday 3/27: 3rd and 4th grade ELA testing

Today is officially the first day of SPRING! Hooray! I hope all families enjoy the fist weekend of spring!

Jackie Mendonsa, Principal

5th Annual Daffodil Fun Run 5K Run & Walk to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters: I wanted to reach out to Shutesbury Elementary and invite you to our upcoming 5th Annual Daffodil Fun Run! The race is a 5k (run / walk) race through Amherst that raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County. It’s such an exciting community event and a great way to welcome the warm spring weather with the Daffodils being in full bloom!

Last year the event raised over $45,000 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters - and we are hoping to top that this year with a goal of over 1,000 runners and walkers - making our goal this year $50,000!

With Shutesbury having such a big impact on the community, you can truly change the lives of our most at-risk youth.
