NO SCHOOL, THANKSGIVING BREAK
November 9, 2017
Dear Moose Community,
Ahhhh the joys of Daylight Savings. Sleep schedules are challenged and the early evening darkness is creeping in. I hope you are able to enjoy the weekend with your family.
As the weather shifts, I want to remind families that appropriate footwear and outside gear is needed every day for students to play at recess. Students need to have jackets and closed toed shoes to play in the chilly weather. When winter arrives, students will need coats, hats, boots and gloves to play outside. Those who wish to play in the snow will need snow pants. We have donated winter items available at the school. If you need assistance with obtaining winter/cold weather gear, please contact Nurse Katie at [email protected].
***SCHOOL NEWS***
In physical education we are finishing our cooperative games unit. Our current value is cooperation from the legendary Coach John Wooden's pyramid of success. "It is of the utmost importance to understand what is right, not who is right". Our final activities for the unit are themed by the Disney movie “Up.” Students are going on a great adventure to cross the river (the gymnasium floor) and arrive on the other side to rescue the wilderness Snipes and bring them back to Paradise Falls. Students have already created so many incredible ways of traveling while accepting new challenges, all while putting "we" the team before "me"! Ask your child(ren) how they overcame obstacles and completed the challenge. Also feel free to play at home with objects such as couch cushions, have fun, and you will be amazed at what our students can imagine!
Enjoy the Fall,
Very Gratefully,
Steven
***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***
JCB: What is your favorite thing to do at school?
AA: I’d have to say recess. I like to play with the 4th graders.
JCB: What is your favorite lunch?
AA: I’ve never had the school lunch. My mom packs cookies from home.
JCB: What is your favorite thing to do at home?
AA: See what the new Lego Friends news is. I’m kind of a Lego Friends expert.
JCB: If you could be any animal what animal would you be?
AA: If fantasy counts then I would be a mermaid with a unicorn horn and Pegasus wings. Then I could fly, I could swim, I could have magic. And you don’t really need to walk when you have wings because you could just hover everywhere.
JCB: Is there anything you’re looking forward to at school this year?
AA: I really don’t know unless we’re going to be doing chemistry.
JCB: Is there anything else you’d like the Shutesbury community to know about you?
AA: I want to be a rock star. I make up songs on my Ipad with Lego Friends Music Maker. It’s an app. I also have a You Tube channel – Lego Cookie Cupcake (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnh27WEyJCyT7mtu6-U0QVA)

Sunday, December 3; 10:30AM-2PM; Eating Your Way to Strong Bones
An adequate supply of calcium is necessary to build and maintain strong, healthy bones. Of course, many simple and delicious foods supply this essential mineral – beans, leafy greens, soy foods, sea vegetables, nuts, seeds and a few special grains. Yet some foods increase our calcium needs and others inhibit its uptake, while others actually steal it from our teeth and bones. To cut through calcium confusion and discover delicious ways to nourish your bones, join Leslie Cerier for this fun and informative hands on vegetarian cooking class.
For more information on each class, please go to www.lesliecerier.com/classes
