5/6 Morse Hill Field Trip

Dear Moose Community,

Welcome Back!! It has been so wonderful to see all of the students and families back at SES! I would be very interested in seeing how many total inches were grown over the summer—we certainly have some taller students!

Dennise has returned to SES as our nurse and is excited to be back with the students and families. We have also added several new staff members to our moose family. Josh Arond and Annie Foley Ruiz are working in the 6th grade. June Hellyar is working in the 4th grade, Julie Tanguay is a part time behavior specialist and Steven Carra joins us as our new PE teacher.  We also have several students and families new to the SES community. Welcome to all!

Below, enjoy a picture of the SES staff enjoying the new playground! This year is off to a terrific start. We can’t wait to see the learning, growth and happiness that is in store.

Remember, there is a Welcome Back Potluck Picnic on Friday September 9th! Your family is invited to bring a picnic blanket and a potluck dish to share. We will join together outside from 5:00-6:30 pm and enjoy a meal and evening together. April Woodard is facilitating this event. If you are able to give a helping hand, please contact April at [email protected].

Save the date! Open House will take place on September 21st! A detailed schedule will be made available soon. Open house at SES is an adult event. Students do not attend as guardians spend time with the teacher understanding the year their students will experience.

Happy New School Year!

Jackie

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Elyse from 1st Grade!

EH

JCB:  What is your favorite thing about our school?
EH:  I like the math and the spelling we had.   We just had spelling and it’s pretty hard but I liked it.

JCB:  What would you like to be when you grow up?
EH:  I’m thinking about being a vet.

JCB:  What do you like to do in your spare time?
EH:  Sometimes it depends on what I’m feeling.  Sometimes I play with my dolls, if mom lets me I’ll watch a show, sometimes I go outside.  Those are the things I might do.  Sometimes I think a lot.

JCB:  What are you looking forward to at school this year?
EH (with help from her friend, Tansy):  Field day.  It’s super fun!

***COMMUNITY NEWS***

Message from Mass. Association of School Committees:

As you know, parts of Louisiana were overwhelmed by recent flooding, and the Baton Rouge school district was particularly damaged. Our counterparts in Louisiana have put out a call for assistance. If anyone would like to contribute to them as they work to recover, a fund has been established. Below is the call for assistance from our sister school boards association and their Executive Director Scott Richard. The LSBA link is posted as part of the message.

"Natural disasters such as the historic flooding event occurring in south Louisiana never happen at a 'good time'—and this one is hitting just as many school districts started the new school year. In fact, the most seriously affected districts had just completed day one or two of the new school year, and now face the challenge of trying to get schools up and running again—without the necessary supplies needed to do so.
"Moreover, many families have lost all their belongings and their homes.
"While we know state and federal assistance is in process, the LSBA Board of Directors and Membership felt it appropriate to establish an LSBA Fund for Restoring Schools to provide additional assistance in the short term to assist with basic school supplies and instructional materials replacement.
"All contributions into the Fund will be donated by the LSBA to school districts based upon the proportion of students whose schools were flooded. The school district will then decide how best to expend the funds, as they will best know how to address their individual needs. The LSBA will be able to provide short-term assistance for such necessities as classroom supplies, repairs, clean-up costs, and basic technology replacement."
