FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2016-17!

June 3, 2016

Dear Moose Community,

It’s been a great week at SES! Yesterday (Thursday), our fabulous parents planned, set up and cooked an absolutely delicious lunch for the SES staff to show their appreciation for the talented professionals that work with their children every day. Special thanks go to Ann Shea for her organization and facilitation of the lunch and to all the parents who cooked and baked the incredible dishes and treats. It was marvelous! The PTO hired a masseuse to give teachers chair massages as well! THANKS—we feel the love!

On Thursday, poet Verandah Porche visited and worked with many classrooms. Students heard some beautiful poetry and even tried writing some. We are so lucky to have visiting writers to our school. Thanks to Ms. L for hosting Ms. Porche and thanks to the PTO for funding this visit.

We are preparing for FIELD DAY! On Monday, June 6th students will participate in games and activities together. Our PE teacher, Ms. Borkhuis has spent a lot of time planning out and mapping our fun-filled day. The activities start at 10:30am. Students will break for lunch and continue afternoon activities until 3:00pm.  As I glance at the schedule, the game “Duck, Duck, Moose!” stands out! PLEASE send students to school in clothing that can get dirty and allow them to run freely. Also, please send students in SNEAKERS and sunscreen. Ms. Borkhuis has arranged for a fancy SES water bottle for each student as well.

Next week the 6th graders will present their amazing portfolios to family, friends and staff members. They will present their experience at SES and their thoughts on moving on to Middle School. There is also a PTO meeting on the 7th.

Our School Council survey closes on June 10th! Please take 5 minutes to tell us your thoughts. Don’t miss the chance to win 2 of Chef Gail’s delicious pizzas! Click here: to take the survey http://goo.gl/forms/HIog0rvVXVgaqmbK2.

12 more school days remaining!

Jackie

MULTI-ARTS OPENS NEW ART EXHIBITION

3D CARDBOARD SCULPTURES

at the Jones Library in downtown Amherst

June 1-30 , 2016

Multi-Arts, a non profit arts educational program of the Pioneer Valley, proudly presents an art exhibition of 3D CARDBOARD SCULPTURES made by the Multi-Arts children under the guidance of Titus Neijens, professional artist, illustrator, and the Multi-Arts art teacher.  The children artwork will be exhibited at the central hallway of the Jones Library during the entire month of June. On Thursday, June 2nd, as part of the Amherst Art walk, Titus Neijens will be offering a demonstration of the creation process of 3D cardboard objects.

Multi-Arts cultivates a vibrant and stimulating working environment that nurtures children’ self-esteem and confidence. Children learn the value of hard, focused work and the joy of collective creation. Its Outreach Program connects the children creations with the community through permanent and rotating art exhibitions and open family art events, hence contributing to the vital and rich artistic life of the Pioneer Valley.

“A vital, nourishing & supportive forum for young ones to experience many forms of the arts. Through personal one to one appreciation & instruction by true artists in the fields I saw tremendous stretches of ability, confidence & skill take place in a few short weeks.”  Parent, 2015

During the program children work daily with a faculty of 7 professional artists with teaching experience, assisted by highly educated teaching assistants. They participate in all the artistic activities and work on integrating them into a single production. The activities include theater; creative writing; music; art –which involves not only painting and exploring different materials and techniques, but also book making and cardboard animals creation; custom and stage design; black-light-theater and mime; and flamenco and funk dance.

Multi-Arts SUMMER PROGRAM starts on June 20 and goes until August 12. There children can learn the art of 3D CARDBOARD SCULPTURES and much more. Visit its website at multi-arts.org
