Sixth Grade Portfolio Presentations

May 27, 2016

Dear SES Moose Community,

There are 16 school days left! The temperatures are rising and the school days are ticking down. As I write this letter, I can hear a 4th grade student telling a staff member how “awesome and fun” the band concert was on Wednesday night. Our student musicians who take band with Brian Bender delighted our school community on Wednesday morning and evening with a rousing line up of ditties.  We are so lucky for the musical opportunities our students enjoy. Please see some pictures from the event below.

Today the 6th graders are off to Boston! They will enjoy a chemistry project at MIT, ride the T and have a scavenger hunt in Cambridge!  We know they will have a great time in the big city.

Our halls were buzzing with excitement this morning as the 2nd graders gathered to present their family heritage at their Countries of Origin Fair, and the 1st graders held a Poetry Café! Our students were so proud to show off their hard work and what they’ve learned. Bravo 1st and 2nd graders and their teachers!

Thank you to the 40 people who have taken our School Council survey so far! People are reporting that it is quick and easy—with a great opportunity to win some pizza from Chef Gail! If you haven’t taken it yet, please do so! You can click directly on this link: http://goo.gl/forms/ZWsGXmPBePqd1mPv2.

If you receive a paper copy of the Roadtown, we have attached a paper version of the survey that you may prefer to submit! We appreciate your feedback!

As the weather is getting warmer, I would like to remind families to send students to school with shoes that are suitable for running and playing outdoors. Sneakers and sturdy sandals that completely attach to the foot are appropriate options for outside play. Please do not send students to school in flip-flops. We have already had a few injuries from flip-flops this week. Thanks so much for your attention to this matter.

We do not have school on Monday, due to Memorial Day.

Your fellow moose,

Jackie

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Ty from 1st Grade!

TT-P

JCB:  What is your favorite thing about our school?

TT-P:  Gym.  We get to do lots of different kinds of games.

JCB:  What would you like to be when you grow up?

TT-P:  A football player for the Patriots.

JCB:  What position would you play?

TT-P: A receiver.

JCB:  What do you like to do in your spare time?

TT-P:  Minecraft Story Mode.  It’s Minecraft except you can choose who you want.  It gives you choices of sentences and you can make your character say them.  There’s a different episode to stop a weather storm.  It’s a little different than playing Minecraft.

JCB:  If you could eat one food for the rest of your life and only one food, what would it be?

TT-P:  Spaghetti and meatballs!

***SCHOOL NEWS***

VOLUNTEERS FOR DEMOLITION!!  SES has been awarded a Community Preservation Grant in order to install new playground equipment and surfacing on our PreK/K playground.  In order to have this equipment installed, we need to remove the current climbing structure.  If anyone can help DEMOLISH our current structure in the days following the last day of school for students (Wednesday – Friday, June 22-24 or during the week of June 27) please let Jessica in the office know.  If you can donate a chain saw during those days, we would greatly appreciate that as well.  [email protected], or 259-1212 x0.

***PTO NEWS***

Staff Appreciation Lunch:  This year's lunch will be on Thursday, June 2nd.  It is a great way for parents to thank the teachers and staff of Shutesbury Elementary School for all they do for our children.

The PTO needs volunteers to contribute food and drinks and to set up (9-11:30am) and clean up (1:15-2:45) the lunch.  If you can help in any way, please contact Ann Shea ([email protected]).
