October 30, 2015

Dear Mooooooooooooooose (to be read/spoken in a ghost-like way),

The end of October is upon us! I’m wishing you all a weekend filled with laughter, fun and trick-or-treating. This week we celebrated our 2nd annual Vocabulary Costume Day! There were great, robust, juicy words that students illustrated through costume. In next week’s Roadtown, we will include some great photos of the event!

We have some great news to share! Shutesbury Elementary School applied for and was awarded another Massachusetts Cultural Council STARS grant for our Artist-in-Residence program! We are thrilled with this funding and are delighted to announce the artists that we will be working with. In November and December, all classrooms will have the opportunity to work with the sister team of Ashley and Caddy Carlisle. Ashley and Caddy are the founders/owners/teachers of the Center Dance Studio in Amherst. Ashley and Caddy specialize in dance. Specifically, they focus on dancing as a means of storytelling. All classrooms will receive 5 sessions with the artists. The school will then create an all-school performance featuring their work. This performance will take place on Wednesday, December 16th at 7:00 pm.  For more information about the artists, please visit their website at http://thecenterdance.com/.  We are so happy about this partnership and experience for our students.

It was wonderful to have families in the building at conferences this week. This is a reminder that conferences continue into next week, and that on Tuesday November 3rd students will have a 1:00 dismissal.  Looking ahead, there will be no school on November 11th due to Veteran’s Day.

Have a spooktacular weekend!

Moose Interview of the Week!

Khalil from 3rd Grade!

JM: What do you love about SES?

KWM: Well, I have a lot of friends. There’s fun stuff at school like PE and Art and Assembly. I also like math and science.

JM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

KWM: That’s a hard question, but I think I want to be a policeman because I want to help people.

JM: What are you enjoying about 3rd grade?

KWM: I am enjoying writing our personal narratives. I like it because it is writing about true stories about you.

JM: If you could eat any kind of food for the rest of your life what would it be?

KWM: I would pick a burrito. I would like lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, beans, rice, sour cream and cheese in it.
