April 28, 2017

Dear Moose,

IT’S SPAGHETTI DINNER TIME!!!!!

In the midst of this busy spring we have a very important event coming up on Friday, May 12.  The 33rd annual SES Spaghetti Dinner will have 2 seatings that night – one at 6:00pm and one at 7:30pm.   The cafeteria is turned into an Italian Bistro with a live band, twinkling lights and mustachioed servers!

Tickets are available now through any 5th or 6th grader, the school’s main office (259.1212 x0 or [email protected]) or at the MN Spear Memorial Library!  This is a very popular community event.  Get your tickets early, dine with your community and help support your school!

See you at the Spaghetti Dinner!

Jackie

***MOOSE INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK***

Yohann from Kindergarten/1st Grade!

YJ

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do at school?
YJ:  Afterschool!  Being in the library with Kieran so I can make stuff with him like airplane landing pads, airports.  I just draw it - basically a blueprint.

JCB:  What is your favorite thing to do at home?
YJ:  Play with Archie [little brother].  Mostly go outside and play with Archie and catch bugs.  Of course, as you know, I like animals.

JCB:  What would you like to be when you grow up?
YJ:  Kind of my own thing.  Kind of an animal protection center.

JCB:  If you were President, in charge of the country, what would you do first?
YJ:  Try to stop climate change.

JCB:  How would you do that?  Do you have ideas about that?
YJ:  Make more electric cars, protect more trees.

JCB:  What is your favorite food?
YJ:  For me, right now, it is cheeseburgers and French fries with ketchup.

JCB:  Do you ever eat Chef Gail’s cheeseburgers?
YJ:  Yeah!!

JCB:  If you could be an animal what animal would you pick?
YJ:  Komodo dragon because I wouldn’t need food that much.  They can not have food for two months!  They eat ginormous things like deer, buffalo.  It’s a catch and release though.  Once they catch it they put bacteria and venom inside of the animal that they bit, so it takes, like, 1 week to start getting infected and a second bite makes it start to die.

JCB:  What is your favorite animal?
YJ:  Tuatara.  It’s a type of lizard that lives in some islands near New Zealand.

Spaghetti Supper Volunteers and Tickets

SES Parent - Spaghetti Supper tickets are now on sale at the front office or the MN Spear Library, or from any 5th or 6th grader.  We are also inviting any parents to help with the supper.  We still need about a dozen volunteers to help with the Spaghetti Supper on May 12.  Our greatest need is during the 7:30  - 9 pm shift, but we could also use a few more folks with the 6-7:30 shift. This is a big tradition for SES 6th graders, and gives parents of younger students a chance to see how it works.  If you can help, please contact Kyla Hastie at [email protected], or 413-253-0317.

33rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner:

The annual Spaghetti Dinner at the Shutesbury Elementary School is right around the corner! On Friday, May 12, 2017 our school will be transformed into an Italian bistro. Come enjoy a spaghetti meal with all the fixings. Graduating 6th graders will wait tables. There are two seatings, 6:00 and 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased through a fifth or sixth grader or through the school office.  The M.N. Spear Memorial Library will also be selling tickets. Prices are $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors. All money raised will be used for the 6th grade field trips.  Hope to see you there!

***PTO NEWS***

We will be receiving a check for $184.31 from the Stop & Shop A+ School Rewards Program!  This money can be used in any way we see fit for our school.  We acquire this “free” money when grocery shoppers register their Stop & Shop cards and affiliate them with the Shutesbury Elementary School.  For more info on the A+ School Rewards Program please see the website:  https://stopandshop.com/savings-and-rewards/rewards-program/aplus/.  Thank you for your support!

***COMMUNITY NEWS***

Who is the Community Clean-Up?  It is all of us!  On Saturday, April 29, from 10 – noon, Sisters and Brothers, Moms and Pops, neighbors and friends will go out and pick up the winter debris along Shutesbury’s roadsides.  This is our third year and the town looks OH SO MUCH better when we all pitch in.  Bring in the bag of trash that you clean up along the road and we’ll give you a new bag in return.  This year we’ll be collecting the bags in the Highway Department yard instead of at Town Hall.

You can help Make Shutesbury Beautiful again!  For more information contact Susie Mosher, sndmoes@ verizon.net or call 259-1550

News from the M.N. Spear Memorial Library

Hello! Lots happening in the next two weeks!

May 2nd is Valley Gives Day – a day to invest in Shutesbury’s future.

Valley Gives is an online giving day hosted by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Hundreds of non-profits and thousands of donors across the Pioneer Valley will participate in this one-day celebration of all the causes we care about in our communities.

The Friends of the M.N. Spear Memorial Library are participating in Valley Gives for the third time, with all donations benefiting our New Shutesbury Library Fund. We have some exciting news! A team of ambitious library supporters has joined to challenge us to give generously on Valley Gives Day.

If we raise $4,000 in online donations on May 2nd, they will match it!

Please help us BUILD our New Library Fund and meet our match. On May 2nd, visit our Valley Gives page,

https://valley-gives.org/designee/friends-of-the-mn-spear-memorial-library-inc or go to our website, mnspear.org and click on the Valley Gives link. Please give what you can. A little bit helps a lot. Thank you!
