Dear Moose,
I hope your family enjoys some fun time together over April Vacation. It has been so uplifting to see the children and teachers enjoying the sunshine outside this week. It is amazing how much the change in season helps to lift spirits.
Grades 3, 5 and 6 have completed the ELA MCAS. Grade 4 will complete the ELA MCAS the week after vacation (April 25, 27 and 28). They will be taking the test on the computer. In May, grades 3-6 will complete the Math MCAS. There are only two test sessions of the math MCAS for each grade. If you have not done so, please sign up to donate a snack to your child's class on a testing day.
We continue to see students getting ill in school-- fever, flu etc. We are being vigilant in having students wash hands, wiping down desks and surfaces etc. I would like to remind families to please not send students to school with a fever or, if they have had a fever or have vomited in the last 24 hours. I am looking forward to break so we can open the windows and get fresh air circulating throughout the building and get the germs out!
Have a wonderful vacation,
Jackie

Who is the Community Clean-Up? It is all of us! On Saturday, April 29, from 10 – noon, Sisters and Brothers, Moms and Pops, neighbors and friends will go out and pick up the winter debris along Shutesbury’s roadsides. This is our third year and the town looks OH SO MUCH better when we all pitch in. Bring in the bag of trash that you clean up along the road and we’ll give you a new bag in return. This year we’ll be collecting the bags in the Highway Department yard instead of at Town Hall.
You can help Make Shutesbury Beautiful again! For more information contact Susie Mosher, sndmoes@ verizon.net or call 259-1550
Active Bystanders seminar: Creating Safety in Contentious Times
Shutesbury Athletic Club
April 26, 7-9pm
If you are a bystander witnessing a harmful situation, do you do something? What do you do?
This Active Bystanders seminar helps participants recognize when they are bystanders, analyze situations, and evaluate the consequences for everyone involved. TAB heightens bystanders’ power. It teaches how bystanders can interrupt harm doing and generate positive actions by others. Active bystandership does not mean aggression against the harm doer. It means taking responsible action to help people in need instead of remaining passive and becoming complicit. Bystanders gain the competencies they need if they decide to take action when they witness something they feel is unfair, or wrong, or troubling.
Workshop Content:
- Defines the roles of individuals involved in a harmful situation (target, harm doer, bystander) and assists participants in discovering the positive power of bystanders;
- Reveals the universal inhibitors that lead to inaction on the part of bystanders and witnesses when harmful actions are going on and discusses how to overcome them;
- Examines the promoters of active bystandership (moral courage, inclusive caring, responsibility for others, etc.);
- Stresses safety and helps participants develop their own intervention techniques and action plans to for when they encounter harm doing.
Please Pre-register by emailing Susan Rice at [email protected]
